Glenbrae Graduation

Thursday 1st December 2016

Dear Sir/Madam.

We are trying to raise money for our year 8 graduation. Though we are ordering custom T-shirt, we don’t have enough money for every year 8. So we came up with some ideas like a Car Wash, Sausage Sizzle and many other ideas. Some of our teachers thought that it would be a good idea to clean up the creek at the Glenbrae reserve and, hopefully get sponsored for it.

This will be done next week Tuesday 6th December and we invite you to come and join in if you want too!

All the money will be used for our graduation day and gear. Also, if we get more then needed we will save it for next year’s camp.

Outcome Ideas for a game

Kiwi Can

Thursday 13th October 2016

Today we had Kiwi Can we played a real cool game. There were four cones each had a word on. There were two taggers. Everyone who wasn't a tagger started behind the cone with honesty. The rest were labeled Truth, Integrity and Caring. It was super fun and easy, Mr.Numia Would call out one of the words on the cone and whatever cone he told you to go to you have to try and get there without getting caught by the tagger. I was one of the taggers along with Dora, a girl in my class. If you were tagged you were to sit down on the side. The next round they chose new taggers. The new taggers were my friends Sam and Hemi.

When we were back in class we talked about what values and where to use them. After that we did the activity. We did roll play. I was in group 5 with Danny Joe, Levi, Mata and Mele. Each group were to make a play about the card they were given. Our group was given Friendship. While we were talking about what to do in the play Miss.Tui came by and gave us an idea of what we could do. So with that we added on to her idea. In the play I was the teacher and Danny Joe was the new kid. We also got a little help with the play from Mr.Numi . The rest are playing hacky sack when I introduce a new kid and they befriend him and let him play the game with them. After we did GKQ's which was a bit hard. All the the questions were super hard for everyone and were all connect with Mount Everest.

Financial Literacy

Monday 5th September 2016

Today two woman came over to our school to teach us about saving and how to spend well. First they told us their names and told us what they were doing here. Then they talked a little bit about savings and asked us if we knew what and how to save. Next they handed us a piece of paper with the amount money of money the person on the paper had. Next to it on the paper was a list of things that the person had spent their money on. We were tasked to see what things she could have done without to save more money. Most people said that she should have not Topped up or gone to the movies with snacks. But I that she shouldn't have brought themselves some new jeans because it costed a lot of money.

After that they gave us a new and bigger piece of paper. Then they put us into groups so that we could find ways to save and earn money. In my gorp was Chris,Alfred,Me and Danny Joe. We first wrote down ideas to earn money. I personally think that we had brilliant ideas but on the next activity we did not do as well. A Lemonade Stand, Garage Sale, Selling Clothes and Doing Chores were just some of the ideas that our group had. After that we had to chose something that all of us wanted to save up for and then make a plan of how we were going to save enough money to archive that goal. But we didn't that much so we hid our paper, but they said who ever didn't come up and speak will do it the next day. But a boy called Mosses included Danny Joe even though in the middle he went with us and then switched at the end when were weren't doing so good.

Future Career

For my career I would like to become a basketball player for the NBA (National Basketball Association) playing the Cleveland Cavaliers. An average basketball player makes about 5 million dollars each year. But an MLB (Major League Baseball) only makes 3.3 million dollars a year. The NHL (National Hockey League) pay is even lower than that. They only make 2.4 million a year and a NFL (National Football League) makes 1.9 million.

Plus I already like basketball and play it. So I get paid to do what I love. If I didn’t become a NBA player I would like to become a freelance writer. Freelance writers get to work from their own homes and I also enjoy writing. They can chose what jobs to accept so that means any job with a deadline they do not have to accept it. You can earn as much money as you want by just accept more and more jobs. It also gives you more free time to do what you want to do because you can pick how many jobs you do.

Reading Today

Wednesday 31st August 2016

Today me and the rest of the people in my reading group read chapter two of the book Private Peaceful. So far in the story a kid by the name Tommo Peaceful feels guilty for killing his father even though he didn't really kill him, They were taking a walk in the woods and a tree broke and was about to fall. As it was falling his father told him to get out of the way but he was so scared that he couldn't move. So his father had to push him out of the way while getting crushed instead. It doesn't really revel that he does die but it says that he is lying under the tree, while his nose bleeds.

But chapter 2 is way different. It is mostly about the entire family rather than just one person (Tommo).

To Auckland Transport

Dear Auckland Transport I hope that you can install some alarms that can alert the security when people are on the train track so that the security can take them off the track before a train comes. You also could put up gates along the train track so that people can not cross over the track and hurt themselves. Maybe you could hire people to watch the train track to watch if anyone is trying to cross the track.

Some people's hearing is impaired and they need a hearing aid to hear clearly. They might not hear the alarm from the train and killed. So I think you should install Toa sirens along the track for safety reasons. You should try and make trains easy to stop so that they can stop fast if someone happens to get on the track.

Haka Practice

Today Mrs.Tofa made us go to the hall after our SSR (Sustain Silent Reading) to practice the Haka. Firsgt we did the moari one which was reall hard and really boring. She made learn the words for ages and some of us including me didn't even know the actions. She showed a video of the All Blacks when they did the Haka as an examle. After we were done with that she showed us  a video with the Samoan Haka and Tongan Haka. We decided to go with the Samoan Haka. It was cool and easy. She told Mosses to teach us because he already knew they actions and words.

Vollyball Kiwi Sport

Thursday 18th August 2016

Today we had Kiwi sports and was really really fun at the end when we had the games. As always the coach Antonio or Toni told us to grab a partner to practice the first activity with. My partner was Levi.R. In this activity we had to dig to each other while moving down the line that was fun also. After that we needed another pair to add on to the activity. We were with Mafoa and Mateaki. Two people will pass the ball to them then they dig it and swap places.

Later we departed from the and went back too two people. It was fun because we were doing our spikes. I don't think Levi.R had fun because when I threw it up to him I always did it wrong. Later we went into a line while the coach gave us the number of our team. I was in group 2 and so was Levi.G,Alfred and Mrs. Tofa. We were going against team 1 then team 2. When won both matches and then went back to class.

Kiwi Can with Mr.A

Thursday 11th August 2016

Today with Mr.A was kinda boring. But I still liked it. We did the same things as last week. But this time we played Limbo. He told to get into a group and one person goes to grab the hokey stick and hold it up while the rest of your group tries to bend over and get under the stick with out touching it. In my group was Me,Danny Joe,Hemi,Justin,Linda Kiki,Taki and Lio. We were pretty good I think.He told us to see how much people your group can get under the stick. 

Then he asked about what goal we would like to set. After that he asked what we would have to do to reach those goals. Next he handed us a piece of paper and told us to get into a group. It could as big as four people. In my group was Me,Hemi and Mafoa. He said whoever did not finish it had to come back and finish it again. Our didn't finish it in time so we have to go back at lunchtime. After that we did GKQ's. That was a little boring. After that we lined up outside this time and went to the court for fitness.

Thursday 11th August 2016

Today Kiwi Sport was really fun. When we got there all the nets were set up but the coach was down in the juniors for some reason.  First she told us to find a partner and practice hitting it up to ourselves so when can catch the ball. My partner was Mateaki. It was kinda annoying having to run back and forth to get the ball. Because me and Mateaki were hitting it over to each other.

The second activity was like a practice round for a small competition we were going to have with each other. We were going to practice our serving by standing behind the line and serving ball over the net to your partner. Then your partner will do the same. For the game we would have to do it successfully 20 times to win a prize. The prize were lollipops. My brother Levi and a boy named Alfred won the prize.

Next we were to stand in a line on the other side of the court to find out what team we were going to go in. I,Levi,Mafoa and Maara were all in team six. The first team we had to face was team five. In team five was Danny Joe, Miami, Moses and Hemi. At first we didn't do very well because we weren't working as a team. But with the second team we were way better. The second team we challenged was team one. Team one had the coach, Mele, Dora and Mateaki. The were really fun to beat. The last team we challenged was team three with Justin,Alfred, Linda Kiki and Levi.G. It wasn't as fun because we didn't get to challenge them for long because the other class came and we had to finish the game and put the balls in the bag.

Kiwi Can

Thursday 4th August 2016

Today at Kiwi Can Mr. Numia and Miss. Tuia were not here today because they were having time off because of a death in their family. But instead of them we had another teacher but only one his name was Mr. A. He was a bit more strict then our usual teachers but he was equally cool. His real name was Mr. Afutoto but Mr. A was easier to say. At first he told us to sit on the mat behind the cones. 

Then we talked about what was the theme of the term. The theme was Resilience. The he asked about what was the topic. After the questions he would ask us to turn to the person next to you about what you think the answer is. Then he told us all to tell him the answer at once. The whole class called out Setting Goals.

After that he told us to put our hands up if we wanted to ask a question or say something and he didn't like people talking in  the middle of the session he told Danny Joe and Mateaki to sit between the girls so that they wouldn't talk. He said he did that because boys don't like talking to girls. First we played a game where you start off with one peg paged onto your clothes and you challenge other people for their pegs to get more. To win a peg from the other people you are to win one game of rock,paper scissors.

Next we talked about setting goals. He asked us about what a goal is. Then I put my hand up and said "Something you want to achieve." Then he told us what are some of our goals in school. Most of the people that answered up said that they would want to achieve the malathion standard. Later he asked if anyone played any sport. As he called out different sport names people put there hands up. The most hands up was when he said rugby. And then he said do you have any goals for rugby. Some people said stepping and passing. He said that if you wanted to achieve those goals you would have to what. Then one person answered up and said practice.

For the last activity we did the GKQ's. This time we did it twice since we had some left over time. But usually we play too games not just one. Because GKQ's are not a game. When we were finessed he said that he would do the points after we had left and would ask our teacher about what she thought about the lesson. Then we came back to the class room and blogged about it.

Kiwi Sports Volleyball

Thursday 4th August 2016

Today for Kiwi Sports Room 7 had volleyball person teaching it to us was called Antonio. Even though she was a girl. But instead of saying Antonia she said that we were allowed to call her Toni. For the first activity she told us to grab a partner then practice your Dig. Then she asked us who in the class was left handed. I and only a bit of other students were right handed. She said that if you were left handed you are to put your right hand on the bottom and your left hand on the top.

My partner was Chris. It was kinda fun but we kept hitting the ball away. After we were finished with that we were to team up with one other pair and practice sets with your team then hit it over the net. There was not enough pairs left for me and Chris so we had to switch with Luisa and Amelia after they lost but if they won we would have to switch with Fusi and Mata.

Later when we had finished that we learnt how to spike but this time we did not have our partners we were not in a team. I was in team one. Levi.R, Amelia, Courtney, Dallas, Miami and Me was in the same team. It was really fun but unfortunately we didn't win any game and never got to verse team 4. When we had finished she told us to put all the balls in the bag. Next she told us that we needed to be more focus and stop hitting the balls away because we would of had more time for the game.

Science Experiment Room 7 2#

Wednesday 27th July 2016

Today for the science experiment we needed a jar, some scissors and balloon plus a some sugar. First cut the bottom part of the balloon and keep the top of the balloon. Then put the top of the balloon on the top of the jar after taking the lid off. Make sure that the jar is small enough so that the top of the balloon can fit. Second make sure that the top of the balloon sounds like a drum on the top of the jar.

Third put a little bit of sugar on the top of the jar. Lastly hum and see the sugar move. Miss stone wanted us to do this to prove that sound moves in vibrations. But before all that she told us that we had be in a group of three. In my group was Me, Justin and Alfred.

Now Miss Stone has just shown us a video and it they put out a flame by putting a specific sound through the speakers to make the flame go out.

Room 7's Science Experiment

Tuesday 26th July 2016

Today we did a science experiment using Balloons,Icing Sugar and a funnel. First put the neck of the balloon on the funnel. Second add a few spoonfuls of Icing Sugar into the funnel and shake it down into the balloon. Third Remove the funnel inflate the balloon and tie the neck to stop the air and Icing Sugar from escaping. Don't inhale what blowing up the balloon. Fourth go outside to your large open space. 

Your helper should hold the balloon and a pin. Walk 100 large paces away from them. 5th ask your helper to hold the balloon away from thier body. Look at the balloon and signal for your helper top pop it. Watch and listen very carefully you will hear the balloon pop and see the Icing Sugar escape.

Kiwi Can

Thursday 30th June 2016

Today at Kiwi Can was pretty fun. Our class was just five points behind room 8 from winning the big prize that people win you behave good and earn points. First Miss.Tuia greeted us in a different language like she always does. But she changes it up every time we go their. This one was so hard that not even the teachers could figure out what language it was. After that we got into our energizer. It was cool because we played a game where one person from your team is chosen to hold the cone and the rest are to shut their eyes and try to throw the ball into the cone. But the person catching it is not allowed to move his\her legs only his hands. 

Before we left the class room we were split into three groups. I was in the third group. It was cool our team won the first round but the second round was won by group two. In was my brother Levi, Hemi and Moses two of my friends and Mele,Fusi and Linda Kiki. After the game we went back to class to talk about what a mistake is and how to deal with it and what are some of the consequences. 

Then we moved onto our activity. It was similar but this time we weer facing the other way and we were kicking it into a hoop. We were losing until Mr.Numia made the rule for us to spin around 10 times before we have our turn. After we did GKQ's and then counted up all the points. But sadly we didn't win room 8 had beaten us by 9 points but I don't know how even though they also got 25 points. Shouldn't it be the same, them 5 points ahead.

Kiwi Can

Thursday 16th June 2016

Today at Kiwi Can it was fun but a little bit boring. In the begging for the energizer we played a game out on the court. Mr. Numia told the class to chose a partner. My partner was my friend Hemi. Then Mr. Numia told us to chose which partner will be partner number 1 and which partner will be partner number 2. I chose to be partner number 1 while my friend Hemi was partner number 2. If you were partner number 2 you would have to make a circle with the other partners that were also partner number 2.

Then the partners that were partner 1 would have to go stand behind their partners. Then when Mr. Numia called out go right the first partner would have to run around the inner circle depending on the direction that was given. When the have ran around the inner circle they would have to stand behind their partner. Which ever group was last would be out. There was also one more rule if he calls out go under, you would have to go under the legs of your friends and again who ever was last would be out of the game.

After the game was over me and the rest of the students of Room 7 had to walk back to Room 11 where we continued Kiwi Can. The next game was called over take. The point of this was to over take the other team using the ball that your team had. My team had the basketball and I started off with the ball. He said every second person next to Lio a boy next to our class was in the soccer ball team.You were pass it to the second person next to you they were in your team. 

There team won five games to two. After the we did GKQ's. They started off with the four people on Mrs. Tuia Right. After that they did the points and then we went back to our class rom and blogged what we did at Kiwi Canb which is what I am doing this very second.

Poem Recital

Thursday 16th June 2016

Today in class my class had to recite a poem that we had done because we were studying about poetry and were going to chose six people to recite their poem in front of the whole school. But before we did our teacher Mrs Tofa told us that we could have some time to remember our poem off by heart. First a girl in our class named Dora did her poem because no one else wanted to do it and the teacher said that she would chose some one if no one wanted to do it so she did it. Mrs Tofa said she liked it because it was nice and clear.

A few people later and it was my good friend Mafoa going up to do his one. Before when Mrs Tofa gave as time to work on our poem he had asked me to write one for him because he had not per pared one for himself. So I wrote one for him just in time before Dora did hers. A few more and it was my turn. I had wrote my poem about superheroes just like the one I did for Mafoa but he one was a little bit different because his one was about a specific superhero (Shazam aka Captain Marvel). After everyone finished their poem there was four left and three of my other friends were part of the four.

Hemi who didn't do one yesterday, Justin who was in a test and Dasharn who had just started writing his poem as well as a new student Lio.

The Day I Stayed Home From School

Tuesday 14th June 2016

The day I stayed home from school it was really boring. My mum had gone to work and my brother had gone to school. It was only me,my granddad and uncle. But they were going out to get medicine for my granddad. I had stayed home because my nee was feeling sore. It had started about three days before and the week before I didn't go to school because I was already sick. I had a fever and a head acke. I didn't go with my granddad and uncle because I thought that I would just be even more bored. So I stayed home and watched T.V and played on my phone for the rest of the day.

That day went really slow and I was a bit tired. On my phone I played a game called Shadow Fight 2 it is a fighting game where you are a warrior with a body made out of shadows. You are turned into a shadow by other shadows that had been locked away for thousands of year until your player opens it and gets turned into a shadow as the real shadows escape. Then you battle their bodyguards as you try to defeat to escaped shadows.

There are also a lot of other cool things that you can do. You can also purchase weapons and armor from the shop and get free gems by completing fights and completing achievements. You can use the gems that you have to buy or upgrade things and refill your energy. But you can also use your coins to upgrade of buy things also. But most of the good things use gems.

 On T.V I usually just watch the same Chanel that I always watch. Disney XD (Chanel 103) or Cartoon Network (Chanel 102) but mostly I like to watch my recordings. But it got really boring when every came back and I was right about not wanting to go with my uncle because he said he had to wait for ever for the medicine. After they did that he dropped my granddad off and went to go get my little brother Jacob from kindergarten.

 Then they went back to my old house and my uncle took a rest under the tree in the car while my brother Jacob played on the tree. After that my mum finished and came back home. After that my brother came home but went straight away to play with his friends on their bikes.

Battle Hill

Battle Hill

Once upon a time their was a young woman by the name of Astrid her father had trained her to become a great warrior. She was feared across the land. One day she came across a town called Battle Hill. It was overrun by thieves and robbers. The leader of the thieves and robbers went by the name Rider. Rider was a Great thief, infact he was the greatest thief. He could steal anything from anyone and his friends always had his back too. That was the main reason he had become their leader. He was also very smart and strong and made great plans to steal priceless things When Astrid got there she had spotted three of Rider’s robbers robbing and old man and his wife. She knew that she could not sit back and watch an old man get robbed, she needed to do something she thought to herself. So she took the two at the back out and sweep kicked the one robbing the old man.

She had heard that the town had been overrun by robbers. So she told them to tell her where their hideout was. They had told her that there hideout was in a cave at the back of a hill. So that was where she had to go. At the hideout there were 12 men guarding the entrance to the cave and Rider was safely inside the hideout. Astrad was also smart like Rider so she created a smoke bomb to distract the guards and get them away from the entrance. Once they were gone she quietly tiptoed into the cave to find Rider in the middle of the cave. He was a sleep so she carried him out and took her to where she was camping out. Next to the beach. She was next to the beach so that people could not hear him because of the loud sound of the waves from the beach.

In the morning she stole a horse and took herself and him out of Battle Hill with. Soon Rider and Astrid fell in love and stopped doing what they were doing to take time out. Three years after that three bounty hunters were sent to retrieve Rider and bring him back to Astrid’s home village to her father policeman. But she could not let them take her love away so she put a hood on and fought side by side with the person she was there to stop. Stopping all three of those skilled killers took some time. After that they were tired and worn out. So they took time away and hide from everyone so that they could never be found. Years later they had kids who would grow up to be great warriors.

The End

The Lesson of the story is to always have your family and friends back.

Kiwi Sports

Thursday 26th May 2016

Today at Kiwi Sports we were with Ann the instructor. She told us about what we were going to do. She told us that we would be playing a game that would teach us how to keep our distants when we are defending some one. The game was called Shadow Follower. For this game you would need a partner. I was with a boy named Chris. One will have a imaginary ball in their hand and the other will be following you around. When they touch your shoulder with their hand you are to turn around and pretend you are trying to pass or shoot the ball. So that the other person can practice defending the ball and not your face.We didn't play Shadow follower fore that long because it was just to warm us up to do the other activities.

After that we played a game about intersecting and passing. You and your partner from Shadow Follower were to chose two other people to play the next game with. Two people would have the ball and the other two were to try and intersect the ball. The other two that me and Chris were playing with was my twin brother Levi and his partner Mafoa. Ann had told us not to move around but they did it anyway. She also said that you were not allowed to do over head passes.

The next activity was also about intersecting. This game didn't have a name. Four people would be in a square. And one person in the middle. There would be two people on the side. One calling out were to go to get the ball and the other trying to intercept the ball. There were four spots for us to stand on and pass the ball to the person running around. Once the person in the middle was ready we added the defender. I didn't like that game very much because the people would just keep throwing the ball at you when you were not looking at them.

At the end we played another game to do with shooting. We were split into two groups. In my group there were all boys, the was Hemi, Taki, Levi G, Lio, Miami, Chris, Moses, Levi, Levi R, Danny Joe, Dasharn and I think some other people. This game I liked. The two groups would stand on a line near the middle of the court. Then miss would give us all a number. When she called your number you were to run and get one of the two balls in the middle of the hola hoop in the middle of the two groups. Once you have the ball you give the ball to the first person in line, then they have to pass it to the entire team. While they are doing that you are to go to the goal and wait for them to be finished and shoot the ball in. If you get it in straight away that is two points if you get it in on the second time you get one point. After that we went back to class and blogged about this which is what I am doing now.

Netball Kiwi Sport

Thursday 19th May 2016

Today at Kiwi Sport a lady named Anne who taught us how to pivot in mid air. First we practiced of privets in mid air by playing at little warm up game. When the game started she told us the rules. She would call out hi five and then me and the rest of my class would run across to their partner hi five them in the middle of the court and then pivot around and run back to their original spot. If she called low five you would hi five your partner down low then run back.

After that we were warmed up and ready to play. After that she split us up into three groups. There were seven people in each group and in my group was me,Dora,Hemi,Justin,Maara,Luisa and Alfred. We were spreed down the court and I was at the top next to the netball. Now we were playing a passing game to practice our passing. At first my group was winning until she told us that we had to run three steps before the other person could pass to you and they added on pivoting.

After that we played another game she called Rugby Netball. This was our last game for the day. It was very fun. The idea of the game was like netball but you could go anywhere and if you wanted to get a goal you had to put the ball down on the in front of the line she had drawn earlier. My team had Me, Fusi, Dasharn, Lio,Levi.G, Luisa, Maara, Dora and some other kids. It was up to ten and we were wining. When she chose the team I knew we were going to win.

We are learning what plants need to survive

We are learning how plants respond to environmental changes.

What do plants need to survive?

Water

Soil/ fertilizer/ dirt

We are going to conduct a science investigation to determine   what will happen to plants when their environment changes. In this assignment we will be changing the environment of each of the mint plants and the potatoes.

What will we need to make this a fair investigation?

• Lots of plants in case one fails
• Make sure they all get the same amount of sun
• Make sure they still have the other things they need to survive
• Monitor progress every few days - with pictures
• Have a “control” plant, that we do all the right things to.

Method:

• Suffocate a plant - by putting it in a container
• Stop watering a plant
• Take out the soil
• Put in the dark
• Normal plant - the control

Today in class were are going to be doing an experiment including potato's. we are going to see if it grows normally with light, not at all with no light or grow towards the light.

Superman's Fortress of Solitude

Monday 11th April 2016

On the old movie of superman he made his Fortress of Solitude by throwing a piece of kryptonite from his shuttle to earth, to the arctic. Inside there are sunstones that he can put into the Fortress of Solitude to see messages from his father Jor-el and his mother Lara. There's also a place in the Fortress of Solitude where he can give his powers away to be human. But on Superman Returns it does not show him in the Fortress of Solitude for long is shows him floating above earth waiting to fight crime and save people. In the modern Fortress of Solitude there is a key called the Steel Key that superman uses to get inside the Fortress and keep people out.

The largest room in the Fortress of Solitude is superman's trophy room Superman’s trophy room is full of things from his past adventures. Like the Duplication Gun, the same one that helped people from krypton create bizarro version of them selves to take over krypton. That is why Genral Zod was in-poisoned him create the opposite Superman known as Bizarro. His collection even includes the gun that Brainiac once used to shrink entire cities.

One other thing in superman’s fortress of solitude is the shrunken city of Kandor and the Phantom Zone Projector. The small city of Kandor was once the capital of Krypton. But Brainiac a superhero turned bad, shrunk it to add to his collection. Kandor is one of superman’s most prize possessions in his fortress of solitude. In the superman comics there are different types of fortresses of solitude. Some are found in different places and look different too.

Superman’s fortress of solitude is constructed out of Kryptonian crystalline material known a sunstone. On Superman Returns Lex Luther combined's sunstone and Kryptonite to form an island made out of kryptonite that would eventually turn into to a contray of Kryptonite.

Recount about Ripper Rugby

Tuesday 15th March 2016

Today we had Ripper Rugby but I was late so I didn't get to play much. Mrs.Tofa told me to get a belt and attach the tags to the belt and start playing Ripper Rugby. I had to run and try not to get my tags ripped off my belt by the other team. Later when I was running I got my tags ripped off my belt by one of the players from the other team.

His name was Levi.G my whole class calls him that because there is another Levi, nicknamed Levi.R. After the game was over he kindly asked us if we could fold the belts back up for the other class that he was going to play with.
