Superman's Fortress of Solitude

Monday 11th April 2016

On the old movie of superman he made his Fortress of Solitude by throwing a piece of kryptonite from his shuttle to earth, to the arctic. Inside there are sunstones that he can put into the Fortress of Solitude to see messages from his father Jor-el and his mother Lara. There's also a place in the Fortress of Solitude where he can give his powers away to be human. On the old superman movie he gave way his powers for a little while be human and stay with lois lane, but he had to get them back to face General Zod, Non and Ursa.

The Fortress is also a place for him to get away from crime fighting and relax. But on Superman Returns it does not show him in the Fortress of Solitude for long is shows him floating above earth waiting to fight crime and save people. In the modern Fortress of Solitude there is a key called the Steel Key that superman uses to get inside the Fortress and keep people out.

The largest room in the Fortress of Solitude is superman's trophy room Superman’s trophy room is full of things from his past adventures. Like the Duplication Gun, the same one that helped people from krypton create bizarro version of them selves to take over krypton. That is why Genral Zod was in-poisoned him create the opposite Superman known as Bizarro. His collection even includes the gun that Brainiac once used to shrink entire cities.

One other thing in superman’s fortress of solitude is the shrunken city of Kandor and the Phantom Zone Projector. The small city of Kandor was once the capital of Krypton. But Brainiac a superhero turned bad, shrunk it to add to his collection. Kandor is one of superman’s most prize possessions in his fortress of solitude. In the superman comics there are different types of fortresses of solitude. Some are found in different places and look different too.

Superman’s fortress of solitude is constructed out of Kryptonian crystalline material known a sunstone. On Superman Returns Lex Luther combined's sunstone and Kryptonite to form an island made out of kryptonite that would eventually turn into to a contray of Kryptonite.

Recount about Ripper Rugby

Tuesday 15th March 2016

Today we had Ripper Rugby but I was late so I didn't get to play much. Mrs.Tofa told me to get a belt and attach the tags to the belt and start playing Ripper Rugby. I had to run and try not to get my tags ripped off my belt by the other team. Later when I was running I got my tags ripped off my belt by one of the players from the other team.

His name was Levi.G my whole class calls him that because there is another Levi, nicknamed Levi.R. After the game was over he kindly asked us if we could fold the belts back up for the other class that he was going to play with.

Cultural Festival

Tuesday 1st December 2015

Last Friday we had a Cultural Festival and kids could go in a cultural group and perform. It started at 5:45 but everyone says that it was 6:00. We were having a Cultural Festival because some of the kids on camp didn’t pay and one kid kicked a hole in the wall which cost the school 500 dollars.  And they did extra activities like kayaking which cost more money.  Miss Elia was going to take it off the list of camp things to do, but our teacher said put it back on the list.  I wasn’t in any group because I didn’t go on camp.  But my brother Levi was in a group, he was in the Niuean group and the Sasa which is the Samoan group. Before the show, my mum had to get a singlet for my brother because when he did his dance, he was going to have to do it with no shirt on.

But when she did get it, he didn’t wear it because before he must of forgot because the teacher said, “The whole group has to wear singlet or no one can wear a singlet.”. After we got the singlet, our cousins and Aunt had just arrived to come with us and watched Levi dance. It was my cousin Toni-Lee and my other cousin Dylan. They came with there mum Aunty Mata. They came in our car but me my mom, nana and little brother were already in the car. So we were all squashed up, I don’t know why they couldn’t use their car because that's the one they came on.

When we got there were loads of people outside and even more inside the hall where we all went to watch the kids perform. When we sat down I hoped that a big guy won’t sit in front of me so that he won’t block my view the show. My cousin Dylan was on the right side of me and my other cousin Toni-Lee was on the other side of me on my left side. After we sat down it took awhile for the show to start and more and more people started coming and sitting down. After a while, the show started and the first act was the Kapahaka kids doing their thing.

First they did the Maori haka. After the haka they sung a song. I thought that their song sounded great. After them was Room 4 doing their act. They did another song but they did not sing it. It was on a tape they just danced to the song with their poipoi. But I think that they were supposed to sing but got scared in the middle of the act. Next after them was these two boys showing us some Karate moves. Their names were Alex and Richie. Richie was the little one and Alex was the bigger one. My friend Justin told me that had a six pack. I think that he could give me a huge hiding if we was my age and height.

Fourth was the Samoan girls. I can’t remember much about the samoan girls so I’m just going to skip to the next one. Later Room 5 did their act to tell us about recycling. Each of them had prop from the song. The song sounded like a baby song, but still I liked it because it was catchy. The song I think it was called Save the World. After that was my old teachers group Sound Of Glenbrae by Mr.Nath. It was so boring, they did the exact same beat for ages, then changed it and did that same beat for ages and changed back and did the same beat from in the beginning for ages. I couldn’t wait until it was over. But my mum said “That’s in Mr.Naths culture to do the same beat for ages”.

Next was the Tongan Boys dance. They were good as and heaps of their families were coming up on stage and giving them money. Too bad the teacher was going to take it off them backstage to pay for their camp. James, a year 8 in my class, looked happy as and so did the boys dancing  with him but he just looked the happiest.  Next was the Cook Island group. I thought that there was going to be a whole group but instead it started off with Ma’ara. Then later Honey and Aliayana came out on stage and did the hula with her. In the middle my cousin's asked me if I wanted play a game called Smashy Road on their IPad. It’s just like this game called Crossy Road except this time your the car and you're running away from the cops.

Next up was the one my brother Levi was in. It was the Niuean group. The first act they did was alright. But the song they did after was even better. After the song the song only the boys did the Niuean haka. After that was the Bollywood group and I didn’t pay much attention to this. I was playing Smashy Road. Later was the Tongan girls dance but they weren’t ready yet so the teacher that was taking all the money away from the kids, Mrs.Ripata said “ The Tongan Girls are not quite ready so we are going to have a little competition”. She told all the Maori,Tongan,Niuean,Samoan and other people from other cultures to come on stage and see who is the best dancer. there were heaps of people going on stage and my cousin Toni-Lee (who is a girl and he brother is a boy) wanted to go up on stage and dance so she did. She was on the Samoan side. After the the Tongan Girls were ready to dance. They stopped the contest and started the show up again and introduced the next act.

In that act all the girls had oil on their skin, they looked really shiny. During their dance, I think the crowd gave them the most money. More than the rest of the acts. People started hopping up on stage and giving them money, lots of money. After them was the Samoan Sasa group. All of the people in the Samoan Sasa were in blue. But I don’t remember much about that act. The last act was called the Tau’olunga. But this one only had Alisi a year 8 girl in my class. She was probably the person who got the most money out of all the acts.

After that my uncle took my cousin's and aunty back to my house. And we stayed behind and cleaned up the hall after it was all over. Soon we got tired of waiting and we started walking back to our house. But my little brother had gone missing we thought. But when we got home he was already there. And he had taken my friend Fraser’s scooter home with him. When we asked him where he was, he said that he had walked home by himself on Fraser’s scooter. When we saw the scoter, we took it back straight away because it was not Fraser’s it was his older brother’s scoter. And we did not want him to get trouble. Soon my cousins all went home and we went to sleep not long after.

Identity Theft!

Friday 20th November 2015

Today Rachel came again but this time she taught us about Identity Theft. First she talked about what type of Identification is Government issued and what is Non-Government issued. Then she gave us a piece of paper that has different types of identification and we were supposed  to put a "x" where we think it goes under. After that she warned us on how we could get Identity Theft. And told us the dangers of sharing personal information about ourselves.

She said that you should never say when your going on holiday on social media because people will know your not at home and people will steal your stuff. Also she said that people can steal your personal information from on line shopping company's. When you get letters don't just throw them in the bin because someone could find them and pretend to be them.

When your old credit card expire you need to cut up your card or burn it because it still has important information. Also if your credit card ever got stolen you can tell your bank to cancel your cards because it's been stolen so that the person who stole it can't use it. It was really fact and then she left.

Financial Literacy

Wednesday 18th November 2015

On Monday a lady called Rachel came and taught us about saving. But I wasn't there, but lucky she came again today and taught us about credit and she's coming again on Friday. First she told us about what she was talking about today. Then she wrote on the board who and what we would lend. First she asked us if we would lend a pencil to  our family. Then again if we should lend our favorite DVD to someone in our family.

She asked us if we would lend five dollars to someone in our family. Last she asked if we would lend our phone to someone in our family. After that she asked us if we would lend the same things to our best friend. Then last if we would lend those things to complete strangers. After that she told us that she would chose four students to do a skit.

Keti,Baden,Voni and Alisi put up there hand and asked her if they could do the skits. The first skit was about responsible lending. The one after that was one about lending  money and giving it back the when you said you would. The next one was about a not reasonable friend wreaking the DVD her friend had lended to her.

After that she talked about credit and what it is. Next about loans and how they work. After that she asked us about how we would pay back the money we owed. Last she gave us two papers we were supposed to fill in the words on the first paper witch was about saving money. The second one was about who we think is credit worthy. After that we were finished and she said that she was coming again on Friday to speak t us about something else.

Duffy Role Model Assembly

Thursday 10th September 2015

For our Duffy Model Assembly we had a special guest Myron Simpson. He is a cyclist from New Zealand who came second in the Jr world championship in Mexico in 2007 , and was taught to ride a BMX bike when he was three by his father. He also has two older brothers who used to ride BMX bikes also. The first ever time he represented New Zealand was when he was 8. In his spear time when he is not training he likes to read book. He has heaps of spear time so he started up his own company called Myron's Muesli.

Even though he made a career with riding bikes his two older brother did not. But sometimes he races with his brothers for fun. At one point he showed us his bike, helmet, suit and shoes. First he told us that his shoes were special shoes that connected to the bike pedals. He shoes also had special holes on them to make him go faster and he has special covers on his shoes to cover his lasses. Next he showed us his helmet, witch he asked his uncool to paint for him because his uncool was a professional painter.

On his helmet it had a picture of the current flag and on the side it had a little picture of a kiwi on a bike in front of a silver furn with flames at the back of it. He told us that all his stuff were Aero Dynamic designed to make his go faster. His helmet was shaped funny but he told us that when he rides the wind goes right over his head and onto his back. Later he showed us his suit, it was really small but there was a picture of him racing in it so that was when we knew that it could fit him. But he said that if you crashed the suit would ripe easy.

He told us that when he was little he used to get heaps of scratches on his knees, ribs, elbows everywhere. Finally he showed us his bike, he said it's so light that he can lift it up with his pinkie finger. He told us that his bike weighed 7 kilograms and that his fastest speed on his bike was 110 kilometers per hour. In the beginning he told us if we got the question right we would get to try out his stuff.

There were two winners from Room 7, one from Room 9 and one from Room 8. Honey,Danny,Matiaki and Suwaley were the winners ad they were all from the senior block.
Honey was allowed to wear his helmet, Danny was allowed to wear his medal, Matiaki was allowed to try on his shoes and Suwaly was allowed to wear his spandex suit he was allowed to ride the bike, then Myron told Danny to hold the bike while Suwaly gets lifted onto the bike by Myron. After all that all the kids were allowed to ask him some questions about his career or life.

Poems 2015

Monday 31st August 2015

This is a rap from a mum that used vanilla ice lyrics to make her kids do the work.

Alright, stop !!! Collaborate and Listen
The living room’s a mess and so is the kitchen
Something has to be done rightly or you’ll be grounded daily and nightly
Will it ever stop?:
Yo I don’t know
Pick it all up or I’m going to blow
to the extreme
if you don’t quit acting like vandals
I’ll light up you butt

and use your ears as handles.
